Lovely Kitty

Zou Li, my mum occasionally draws cats. These cats in the drawing could be the cherished memory from the old days. I love these paintings very much.

When I was a small kid, we lived poor but we still kept cats. Not like the pets nowadays, we couldn’t take care of them often, and basically they only ate what we leftover. However, Cats are quite independent; they always know how to take care themselves. They are clean, they play by themselves, and they ate mouse as I saw with my eyes. They never played with me, but they did please me during my childhood. I still remembered my last cat, I used to kit it because sometimes it was really annoying. But along as I grow up, I realize that it was so bad and I really feel guilty.

I used to hear that cat never move home. It happened when we moved, our cat disappeared; it seems that it doesn’t want to follow us. A few days later, coincidently my father went back and saw our cat, she born 4 kitties and she became so skinny and so poor. The truth was she just hided to born the kitties. My father bought some food to feed them. But this really was the last time. They disappeared and never show up again when father wanted to bring them home the next day.
I want to cry every time I remember my father told me this. I wish my cat and her kitties are safe and all the best.

Revolutionary age

Zou Li created these two paintings in the early 80s. It was a transition decade from a Post-cultural-revolution era to an Open-door and Reform Policy era. At this era, the ideology of people’s spirit and mind was reflected on many art works. Some paintings were still deeply affected by the yielding, passion, revolution and sacrifice spirit. On the other hand, we can still find that people were getting relaxed and enjoyed their life.

Tibetan Buildings that I like

I haven't been to Tibet, but I have visited some Tibetan areas in Yunnan Province. Although we didn't go there in a perfect season, which is around summer, it was still a mind-blowing experience to us( regardless of the slight altitude sickness :P )!!!

I still believe an old Chinese saying, "a picture is worth a thoudsand words". So please enjoy the photos that I took below. Hopefully, you could imagine an even breath-taking scene as I saw via these photos.

Leizu, Yellow Emperor's Principal Consort

Leizu was a girl from the Xiling tribe. It is said that while hunting on the Western Hills, the Yellow Emperor saw a girl breeding silkworms and getting raw silk under mulberry trees, which he had never seen before.

Feeling surprised, he approached to her and asked:" I 'd like to learn this technique. Would you please teach it to me?" The Girl answered:" My parents said that I could teach it only to my husband." The Yellow Emperor looked at her from top and toe. She was undistinguished in appearance, yet she was big, strong and handy. So he proposed to her and designated her as Principle Consort. That girl was Leizu.

The emperor then asked her to teach people to breed silkworms, reel silk from cocoons and weave brocade. It was only then that people began to wear cloth and silk instead of leaves and hides. People in later times all regarded Leizu as the mother of sericulture. In the period of Yuanjia of the Southern Song Dynasty, People set up the Altar of the Gods of Agriculture, and worshipped her as the mother of Sericulture ever since.
